Glyceria maxima was the 250th vascular plant in NT18 this year. Had a marvellous wade around the edge of the Cullaloe pond in wellies. Look at these glamour-shot cross-veins. Bee-oo-tiful.
Riccardia chamedryfolia was an unexpected 101st bryo for Cullaloe LNR in amongst the Typha bases (the Typha which may have killed off the scarce Needle Spike Rush that it's an SSSI for - oops!)
Most interesting, and unresolved, species was this Hypericum( St.John's-wort), which is lacking any black dots or hair and therefore has rolled off every attempt at keying it thus far. I sort of assumed it was going to be elodes/marsh, but that's supposed to be glaucous and hairy. Hmm. No. It has a square stem, so I suppose it ought to be square-stalked, but it just doesn't seem to be.
I'll update the year list tomorrow, but a good day all round, including keying out the Staph Stenus fulvicornis from Calais Muir yesterday - it's still good for something!
