A few spring flies from Cullaloe Hills area

Bibio johannis (Bibionidae) from hedge/verge across from Cullaloe LNR



Eristalis intricarius (Syrphidae) - same location


Cheilosia pagana (Syrphidae) pond edge NT1888, but a typical spring fly of dandelions especially.


Lypha dubia (Tachinidae) from woodland NT1888

  1. Bibio johannis positively abundant in sheep pastures up here on Skye yesterday, 100s of males crawling through the grass.

    1. I think I've found it on every patch I work. "Cover girl" on the key too. Hope your fly project is going well. Still holding out hope for July!
