Mediterranean Inverkeithing

Nice of a Med Gull to pop into Inverkeithing this morning. Not the Brown Booby of Kinghorn yesterday, but it's an addition to the patch year list at least

Singing Song Thrush

So the beetle drive ended ignominiously under the target by far, with a loss of weather and inclination. I shall make up for it with a record number of records and species through the year as penance. Maybes.

This morning a Song Thrush was giving it big licks behind the house, so I diverted from matters entomological to memorialise the occasion in lino print.

January beetles 'n' birds

Beetles - a few added from Moss Morran plus "leftovers" from other sites. In '21 I had recorded 30 spp. by the 10th of January,  If anything I'm marginally behind (but there are 24 hours to go!). Obviously that means I only recorded 20 spp. in the latter 20 days of January '21, which I can surely better. Thus far only tussocking and light rock/log turning. Too wet/frozen for leaf litter. Nothing strand line/littoral. No pond dipping.

Paradromius linearis, as common as they come.

I twitched a bird and I liked it

Hope my inverts don't mind it.

Lesser Scaup, happily appearing at the not-too-distant Beveridge park in Kirkcaldy just as we were deciding where to go out for a walk. That'll do. Until someone finds a reason to disallow it, that is. Relocated from the day before, where it was still at Kinghorn Loch. Plumage details let you know it's the same individual.

Braefoot birds

Hard to photograph the passage birds in the morning but at lunchtime Monday 14th there was one Bar-tailed Godwit in the roost on the rocks and a female Wheatear on the harbour wall. It was kind enough to allow me a phone shot through binoculars, which wasn't easy!
