5MR is a 5 mile radius around where you live in which you record things without making big journeys. Originally I suppose it was intended to be a greener way of recording, but it works well with pandemic lockdowns too. Typically this would be birds, and in my case it mostly is. All my local patches are within 5 miles so most of what I record is in the area. 2021 will be confined to birds, but I'll include any other special records on here too.
My local patches, circled in the map, include:
1. Calais Muir Wood - increasingly isolated in new housing, was close to my office
2. Fordell Woods - just north of my town it's an estate with a large Scout activity centre
3. Dalgety Bay - where I live, > 2k. spp. recorded
4. Inverkeithing - my vismig spot. Calcareous geology gives some variety on the ground
5. Carlingnose Point - classic seawatch point, SWT reserve. Also calcareous
6. Mossmorran - Bog with heather and cotton grass
7. Cullaloe Hills - Forestry Commission plantation
8. Cullaloe LNR - decommissioned reservoir, my local SWT reserve. > 2k. spp. recorded
9. Humbie Wood - wet woodland, under-explored.
